Monica David, Public Relations Specialist at the Association for Ecotourism \u021aara Dornelor (AETD), began her presentation at the \u201cMoldova Regional Economic Forum 2024\u201d by emphasizing the importance of the ecotourism destination status obtained in 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u021aara Dornelor is the only certified ecotourism destination in Bucovina, a status achieved at the initiative of the Association for Ecotourism \u021aara Dornelor and through the combined efforts of the local public authorities from Vatra Dornei and the 9 neighboring communes that make up the \u021aara Dornelor tourist area. The administration of the C\u0103limani National Park also played a key role in obtaining this recognition\u201d,<\/i> Monica David stated.<\/p>\n

Monica David explained that AETD is a local NGO that aims to develop communities through ecotourism. \u201cAlthough ecotourism is still a relatively new and little-known concept in Romania, it is gaining more ground thanks to the responsible use of local resources, which can generate long-term prosperity\u201d,<\/i> the specialist pointed out.<\/p>\n

AETD Initiatives<\/b><\/p>\n

Monica David presented two key AETD initiatives that demonstrate the practical application of ecotourism.<\/p>\n

Landscape Education Program in Secondary Schools in \u021aara Dornelor <\/b>\u201cThis pilot project, which started last year, involves fifth- and sixth-grade students from 12 secondary schools in \u021aara Dornelor\u201d,<\/i> Monica David explained. The program includes an optional course focused on learning about the local landscape, natural, cultural, and human values. \u201cWe aim to increase young people\u2019s involvement in understanding local values and encourage them to develop long-term local businesses<\/i>,\u201d added Monica David.<\/p>\n

Local Eco-Brunch Gastronomy Events<\/b> These events offer a combination of local experiences in one day, including local food, guided hikes, and creative workshops. \u201cThe impact of these events has been significant, attracting tourists and generating interest in \u021aara Dornelor\u201d,<\/i> the public relations specialist at AETD emphasized.<\/p>\n
